Colossians 3:1-17
Throughout this passage, there are three things I noticed that show us what it means to be alive in Christ.
1) Setting your heart and mind on things above doesn’t mean you can never be present in things here on earth, it means you need to do it all for the glory of God.
~ Colossians 3:1-2 says, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
I used to think it was terrible that I only spent a short time dedicated to just God everyday. But I was reminded at youth group once that you need to live your whole day dedicated to Him while doing things like work, school and spending time with family or friends. Don’t just involve Him in one hour of your day.
2) If we seek Christ, we are slowly being renewed and being made whole through Him.
~ Colossians 3:10 says to “…put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of it’s creator.”
Sanctification is the process of being made whole through Christ. So we need to seek Christ in order to be renewed by Him.
3) No matter who you are or what you’ve done, if you seek Christ, He is in you.
~ Colossians 3:11 says, “Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.”
Christ is all, and is in all. He can get you through anything in life and all you have to do is seek Him. If you do that you can come alive in Christ.
As you set your heart on things above, journey through the process of being renewed, and comprehend that Christ is in you, you will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be alive in Christ.
Thanks for the reminder to set my thoughts on things above today.
Amen! Good thoughts.
