“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.” John 5:39-40
What a marvelous time we are living in…there is call going out loud and clear to come to the person of Jesus, the Son of Man, the Living God. A shedding of the former things to make way for a Kingdom that we have only just begun to taste.
The context of this scripture is Jesus talking to the Pharisees who were seeking to kill Him. In no way is Jesus undermining Scripture, in fact in these two short verses, He points out that Scripture testifies about Him. Rather, the Pharisees refused to come to Jesus to know Him. They preferred the letter of the law rather than seeking the Person of Christ who fulfilled the law.
We are being invited to know the Person of Jesus, who is the exact representation of the Father (Hebrews 1:3). We are being called to walk with the Son of Man, hearing, knowing His presence which makes known the Father’s heart. As we look to the days ahead that seemingly don’t hold hope in the natural, they hold the very promises of God Himself. The more we intentionally sit at the feet of Jesus listening to Him, knowing Him, hearing Him, learning Him, we will be prepared for the days ahead. I believe the Father is inviting us to know Him more deeply in this season. There is no wasted time when invested in knowing the Father, the Son and the Spirit. Father, I ask that you would show us how to know you better. That we would delight in your presence and would welcome you into the deepest parts of who we are. I thank you for the Church that you are calling to Yourself. That are making beautiful and righteousness before You. Thank you that in you is all hope. May we not be unwilling to come to You. I ask that you would teach us how to know you well. We love you and praise you for your goodness and your great care. In Jesus’ name, amen.
