Week 1: Day 3: Seek Him

Today I was listening to a man reading with great expression the first ten chapters of John. I like listening. It’s incredible how many truths resonate with a renewed understanding of the Holy Scriptures when I listen!

In Chapter eight, Jesus is explaining that he is the one. The one what? The one that the prophets spoke of in the old testament, especially in the book of Isaiah. Jesus said to the people around him, “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (verse 12). As we well know, there were protests from the Pharisees. In fact, they were indignant and accusatory, even though they had witnessed his miracles.

Are you and I among the believers? Do we sense that anticipation and joy as Advent approaches, knowing we will rejoice in His coming? Sometimes it can be hard to focus on Jesus and hold on to his promises, especially in this day and age. Maybe our faith wanes a little. But God kept his promise to mankind. He did send his son Jesus who made a profound statement in that same chapter. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth before Abraham was born. I am.” (verse 58); if we think for a moment about that statement, it is mind-boggling. Let us be encouraged today and focus on Jesus, the light of the world, and reflect on the moment we believed. It will bring joy and purpose to our lives through the Advent season.
