Day 24: Goodness of God

I love the song that we’ve been singing at church, “Goodness of God”:

I love You Lord
Oh Your mercy never fails me
All my days
I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
I will sing of the goodness of God
All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In darkest night
You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a father
I’ve known You as a friend
I have lived in the goodness of God

You are good, God. If nothing else ever changes – You stay the same. You are good and You bless me each and every day – beyond what I deserve. I hold tightly to Your promises. Every moment that I fail, You say, “Try again. It’s ok.” When others let me down, when I let others down, when I let myself down, when I see disappointment, failure, dysfunction all around me, I know that I must stop and see the beauty in all the blessings You have bestowed upon me. You carry me when my limitations would cause me to crumble and fall. You are good. I am Your child. My spouse, my children…the ones who You placed in my longing arms…they are yours. With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

What does it mean to you to rest in the goodness of God today?

Try naming one problem, one situation, or one person that is beyond your control, that is giving you difficulty. Today, prayerfully hand to God this issue and exchange it for His everlasting goodness.

  1. This week again, God saved my son’s life. As the day rolled out for some including myself, unaware of what was going down for my son at that instant – the mercy and undeserved grace of our Father stopped a bullet from going into my son’s belly. Through the sweat shirt, t-shirt and leaving a little burn…He was out of my sight, but not out of God’s. All I knew that day was that I had to pray. 2 days later Matt told me what had happened. Oh, how God is good.
