Day 15: Center Stage

Matthew 6:33

Have you ever performed on a stage before where there was a spotlight? The purpose of a spotlight is to illuminate whatever the crowd’s eyes should be focused on. That person or thing in the spotlight becomes the center focus for all in the room.

How often do we live our lives on center stage, doing anything to get in the spotlight? We climb up the ladder of success to be recognized. We hang around popular people to be noticed. We crave attention and recognition.

Much to our surprise, Jesus creates an upside-down view. He asks us to step out of the spotlight and “seek his Kingdom first.” We are to remove ourselves from receiving the glory and instead reflect all praise to Christ as we seek and long for Him. As we pursue His kingdom, Christ promises to take care of us. He satisfies our needs.

Do you find yourself fighting to be in the spotlight? How can you change your focus to be set on His kingdom?

Has taking time to fast and pray moved you out of “The” spotlight? If it has or if it has not, why?

In which ways has it drawn you more towards being like Jesus?

  1. Reminds me of this scripture.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”
    ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:3-8‬ ‭NIV‬‬
